By checking the box below I, (the “Volunteer”), hereby freely enter into this Release and Waiver of Liability (“Release”), effective as of the date written below, and agree to the terms and conditions stated herein in favor of Turning Point for God and any of its affiliated organization(s), any and all subsidiaries, directors, officers, trustees, employees, representatives, sponsors, donors, partners, licensors, exhibitors, contractors, subcontractors, volunteers, vendors, and agents, (collectively, the “Released Parties”).

I, Volunteer, desire to volunteer for the Released Parties without compensation and engage in the activities related to being a volunteer. I understand that my Activities may include but are not limited to working at Released Parties’ offices and worksites; working in or for Released Parties’ events, including participating in programs, projects and/or productions; loading and unloading materials; traveling to and from Released Parties’ events in different towns, cities or countries; consuming food available or provided; and other volunteer activities (“Activities”).

I, Volunteer, represent that I am in good physical condition, am able to safely participate in the Activities and have no medical condition that would make my participation in the Activities hazardous or subject myself to injury. I am physically able to perform all Activities assigned to me or which I am asked to perform, and I agree that it is my sole obligation to inform the Released Parties, immediately, personally and directly, verbally and in writing, if I am unable to perform any Activities and will inform the Released Parties if I am unable to perform a requested task, and will refrain from performing or participating in such Activities.

I, Volunteer, agree to observe and obey all posted rules and warnings, to follow any instructions or directions provided to me by Released Parties and to abide by any decision of the Released Parties to safely participate in the Activities. I understand and agree that I am expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times, which includes, but is not limited to, general respect for other people, equipment, facilities or property, and am expected to obey all local, state and federal civil and criminal laws while participating in the Activities. I agree Released Parties may dismiss me should my behavior endanger the safety of or negatively affect the Activities or other individuals.

I, Volunteer, understand that engaging in such Activities may expose me to certain risks and dangers, both known and unanticipated by Released Parties. I expressly agree that participating in Activities is at my sole risk and that Activities are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Released Parties make no warranty that locations for Activities and participation in Activities will be uninterrupted, secure or error free and Released Parties expressly disclaim all warranties of any kind, express or implied. I, Volunteer, understand and agree that Released Parties reserve the right to cancel the Activities for any reason in their sole and absolute discretion.

I, Volunteer, hereby freely, voluntarily and without duress execute this Release under the following terms:

Release and Waiver. In consideration of and in order to be allowed to participate in the Activities, I, Volunteer, and my successors and assigns, do hereby fully and finally release and forever discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties and their successors and assigns from any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, suits, whether at law or equity or otherwise, and/or liability of any kind or nature whatsoever, for property damage and/or personal injury, including death, and any and all losses, damages, expenses, costs, fees and/or liabilities of whatsoever nature in connection herewith (including, without limitation, attorneys’ fees and court costs that may be incurred by the Volunteer), arising or resulting from, or in any manner related to, the Volunteer engaging in the Activities, caused in whole or part by the negligence of the Released Parties or their representatives or otherwise. I, Volunteer, recognize that if Volunteer is hurt and/or Volunteer’s property is damaged, lost or stolen while engaging in the Activities, Volunteer will have no right, and hereby waives the right, to make a claim or file a lawsuit against Released Parties, even if Released Parties or any of their representatives caused the injury or damage. The Volunteer understands and fully recognizes that by signing this Release, Volunteer knowingly assumes the risk of injury, harm, damage and loss associated with the Activities. Volunteer also understands the Released Parties do not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial or other assistance, including but not limited to medical, health or disability insurance in the event of injury, illness, death or damage to or loss of property.

Consent to Transportation and Medical Treatment. Volunteer consents to the use of first aid treatment and use of over– the–counter medications and treatments as directed by manufacturer labels, whether administered by the Released Parties or first aid personnel. In an emergency, the Released Parties may try to contact the individual listed below as an emergency contact. If an emergency contact cannot be promptly reached, Volunteer hereby authorizes the Released Parties to act as an agent for Volunteer to consent to any examination, testing, x–rays, medical, dental or surgical treatment for Volunteer as advised by a physician, dentist or other health care provider. Volunteer does hereby release, forever discharge and hold harmless the Released Parties from any liability, claim, demand, and action whatsoever brought or may be brought by Volunteer or on Volunteer’s behalf which arises or may hereafter arise from any transportation, first aid, assessment, care, treatment, or service rendered in connection with Activities. The Released Parties do not assume any responsibility for the payment of such fees or expenses that may be incurred. Volunteer is expected to obtain his own health, medical, travel, or other insurance coverage.

Volunteer agrees to maintain the confidentiality of such information and to comply with all Released Parties’ applicable policies regarding such information.

Photographic/Recording Release. Volunteer hereby grants and conveys unto the Released Parties all right, title and interest in any and all photographs and video/audio/electronic recordings of Volunteer, including as to Volunteer’s name, image and voice, made by or on behalf of any of the Released Parties during Volunteer’s Activities with the Released Parties, including, but not limited to, the right to use such materials for any purpose and to any royalties, proceeds or other benefits derived from them. Volunteer will have no ownership interest in or to such photographs, images and/or recordings, Volunteer has not been provided or promised any compensation pertaining thereto, and Volunteer hereby waives any rights, privileges or claims based on any right of publicity, privacy, ownership or any other rights arising, relating to or resulting from the photographs, images and/or recordings. Volunteer understands and agrees that this paragraph also applies to Volunteer’s minor child(ren) who are volunteering.

Other. Volunteer further agrees that in the event any clause or provision of this Release is held invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such clause or provision shall not otherwise affect the remaining clauses or provisions of this Release, which shall continue to be enforceable. Further, a waiver of a right under this Release by a Released Party does not prevent the exercise of any other right.

Dear Volunteer,

Welcome to Turning Point and thank you for your support of the ministry!

We want your association with Turning Point and its various ministries to be a mutually beneficial and pleasant experience. You have joined an event team that has an outstanding reputation for ministry and the gift of service. This reputation has been earned through the grace and blessings of our Lord Jesus Christ and the diligent, fruitful labor of our employees and volunteers. We hope you, too, will find satisfaction and take pride as you serve at our event.

This Event Volunteer Handbook has been prepared to welcome you and help you understand our policies and procedures.

Please note that this is not an employment contract. The contents of this Event Volunteer Handbook are presented as guidelines and information only. As volunteerism within the organization grows and changes, there may be a need to modify the practices, procedures, and other information described in this handbook.

You are solely responsible for reading this Volunteer Handbook and understanding Turning Point policies. If anything is unclear, please discuss your concerns with the Volunteer Coordinator on-site at the event.

In working together as a team, our goal is to show compassion and consideration for one another as we fulfill Jesus’ command:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Matthew 28:19-20, NIV

About Turning Point

Turning Point’s mission is to daily communicate God’s Word with integrity and to ultimately reach every language group with the Gospel.

We strive to promote ministry in the lives of our constituents by teaching them to be an example of Jesus Christ as well as to build up the local church by building up the people of the local church.

We are dedicated to the daily walk of our listeners and viewers by providing Bible teaching and Biblical study resources to help them grow spiritually.

Turning Point is a nonprofit organization recognized for tax-deductible giving by the federal government. The ministry of Turning Point is broken up into several different aspects such as television, radio, or Internet and monthly giving programs like the Bible Strong Partners.

Each message that is aired, whether over the television, radio or Internet, is presented by Dr. David Jeremiah, and the resources that we provide are derived from those messages. Turning Point is not underwritten by any church or organization but is supported solely by our listeners and viewers.

Radio

Turning Point’s radio program is now carried on a record high of 2,200 outlets, broadcasting over 6,082 messages daily in the United States and Canada. The radio program can be heard in all 50 states as well as well as throughout the entire world via the Internet, iPads, and smart phones.

Television

Turning Point’s telecast, which is filmed at Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, CA features practical messages from Dr. David Jeremiah. The one-hour program also includes music from the Shadow Mountain Community Church Choir & Orchestra, musical guests such as Charles Billingsley, Legacy Five, and special stories featuring men and women who have been impacted by the ministry of Turning Point.

In April 2000, Turning Point Television was launched and began nationwide programming. Currently, Turning Point Television is seen in all 50 states including Washington D.C. on TBN, Lifetime, USA, ION, ABC Family, Inspiration, Daystar, Family Net, The Church Channel, The Christian Television Network, NRB Network, as well as Vision, Crossroads and the Miracle Channel in Canada, UCB in the UK, Kingdom Satellite and METV in the Middle East, Australian Christian Channel, 7Two TV in Australia and Shine, TV3 and CUE TV in New Zealand.

Bible Strong Partners

With an ever-widening circle of over 18,000 members, the Bible Strong Partners program is growing at record pace.

In the spring of 1995, the Bible Strong Partners (formerly called Circle of Friends) program was started in order to help provide financial stability to Turning Point through ongoing prayer and generous monthly giving. In turn, Bible Strong Partner members receive monthly resources from Dr. Jeremiah that encourage their faith in Christ and equip them to take the Gospel into their own circle of friends.

What the charter Circle of Friends members started has become the mainline of support for Turning Point, catapulting it into the global ministry it is today.

Volunteer Standards of Conduct

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:1-2, NIV

Certain practices are in place to ensure a positive and safe volunteer experience with Turning Point.

Drug Free Policy

The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance is not allowed at Turning Point events. Additionally, volunteers may not be impaired by any substance while serving. Such action may result in your immediate dismissal from the volunteer position.

Smoke Free Volunteer Site

Turning Point’s volunteer sites are a smoke-free environment. If you choose to smoke, we ask that you choose an outside smoking location at least 20 feet away from any entryway, vent, or doorway to interior buildings. “Smoking” includes the use of any tobacco products, electronic smoking devices, and e-cigarettes containing nicotine cartridges.

Dress Code

As a volunteer, you are responsible for presenting a positive image to event guests and to the community as a representative of Turning Point. You should dress appropriately for the conditions and performance of your duties. Our staff will be dressed in business casual clothing. Please wear dress slacks or nice jeans and comfortable closed-toe shoes. You will be provided with a volunteer t-shirt to wear onsite.

Harassment Policy

Turning Point is committed to an environment that is professional and harassment-free for all employees and volunteers. Harassment includes, without limitations: verbal, physical, visual, and innuendo. It also includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, sexually motivated physical contact and other verbal or physical conduct. This extends to visual forms of harassment or sexual nature when submission to such conduct is either explicitly or implicitly made a term or condition of employment or is used as the basis for unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment for employees and volunteers.

Volunteers should report any issues to their Volunteer Captain.

Event Volunteer Training & Safety Protocol

Driving Protocol

No volunteer under the age of 18 is permitted to drive a vehicle during the performance of any volunteer activities.

Safety and Health Orientation

Volunteer site safety and health orientation begins before volunteers report to the volunteer site. Each volunteer will have been mailed a copy of the written safety protocol for review; a physical copy will also be available to volunteers on the day of the event. All Volunteer Captains are responsible to inform all volunteers that compliance with the safe volunteer practices is required.

Minors as Volunteers

Volunteers under the age of 18 who wish to participate in an ongoing volunteer opportunity must have written permission of a parent or guardian before they may begin service. We require that all volunteers be at least 10 years or older. The volunteer tasks assigned to a minor shall be performed in a non-hazardous environment and shall comply with all appropriate requirements of child labor laws.

Task-Specific Training

  • After the Volunteer Orientation, Volunteer Captains will train volunteers on how to perform assigned tasks safely.
  • Volunteer Captains will carefully review with each volunteer any specific safe work practices, policies, and procedures that are applicable.
  • Volunteer Captains will observe volunteers performing the tasks. If necessary, the Volunteer Captain will provide a demonstration using safe volunteer practices or remedial instruction to correct training deficiencies before the volunteer is permitted to do the task without supervision.
  • If a volunteer expresses during training that they are unable to or are not comfortable with performing their task, their Volunteer Captain will promptly reassign the volunteer to a team that fits with the volunteer’s preferences and limitations. If a volunteer does not wish to or is unable to serve on one of the addition teams, the volunteer will be released from their duties.

General Volunteer Site Rules

  • Watch your step at all times.
  • Use good housekeeping skills to help prevent trip hazards.
  • When lifting boxes practice safe lifting. Bend at the knees and keep your back straight. Do not twist body at waist. If a box exceeds 30 lbs. have another volunteer or Turning Point staff assist you with the lift. For additional information refer to the Lifting Procedures below.
  • When going up and down stairs, always keep a hand on the handrail at all times.
  • Report all injuries or illnesses to your Volunteer Captain.
  • Follow all posted signs.
  • The Volunteer Captains cannot supervise bags/belongings during the event. Volunteers may risk keeping it in the volunteer room, or keep items with them, in their car, or with friends at their seat. Connect with Volunteer Captains for the best holding places for items.

Lifting Procedures

All volunteers must follow the following lifting procedures when attempting to lift an object.

  • Plan the move before lifting; remove obstructions from your chosen pathway.
  • Test the weight of the load before lifting by pushing the load along its resting surface.
  • If the load is too heavy or bulky, get assistance from a co-worker or fellow volunteer.
  • Lifts that exceed 30 lbs. are generally performed by “team lifts.” This activity will be coordinated by the event supervisor.
  • If assistance is required to perform a lift, coordinate and communicate your movements with those of your co-workers.
  • Position your feet 6 to 12 inches apart with one foot slightly in front of the other.
  • Face the load.
  • Bend at the knees, not at the back.
  • Keep your back straight.
  • Get a firm grip on the object with your hands and fingers. Use handles when present.
  • Never lift anything if your hands are greasy or wet.
  • Hold objects as close to your body as possible.
  • Perform lifting movements smoothly and gradually; do not jerk the load.
  • If you must change direction while lifting or carrying the load, pivot your feet and turn your entire body. Do not twist at the waist.
  • Set down objects in the same manner as you picked them up, except in reverse.
  • Do not lift an object from the floor to a level above your waist in one motion. Set the load down on a table or bench and then adjust your grip before lifting it higher.

Volunteer Teams Overview

Upon check-in, all volunteers will be able to choose to serve on one of the following teams. Volunteer Captains have the right to move volunteers from one team to another due to a team needing additional volunteers or if a volunteer does not wish to or is unable to serve on their current team. All volunteers will be asked to confirm that they can perform the team tasks expected. If a volunteer cannot meet the requirements of a specific team, their Volunteer Captain will reassign them to another team. If the volunteer does not wish to or is unable to serve on one of the additional teams, the volunteer will be released from their duties.
